High blood pressure? Check!!!

The brief for a Blood Pressure Checks campaign required an urgent turnaround…so the NHS Creative cogs whirred into action; media suppliers were contacted and our proposal was delivered in double-quick time.

A few days later we got the good news that we’d been successful! Now it was action stations – we were working to tight timescales to deliver the campaign, as our client Derby Integrated Care Board (ICB) was keen to use the January period to promote blood pressure checks as people are generally more receptive to health messaging at the start of a New Year.

The goal was to continue to build on the existing work done by our client to promote blood pressure checks at pharmacies across Derby.

Our proposal focussed on reaching the specific target audiences of over 40 years old, and especially South Asian, Black African and Caribbean population groups, who face an elevated risk of developing cardiovascular disease due to being more prone to other risk factors like high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

A key part of this campaign was the emphasis we gave to community engagement. We partnered with a local South Asian arts organisation, which enabled us to target events, community groups, places of worship (Sikh and Hindu temples and mosques) and Asian shops. We did this through face-to-face engagement, flyer distribution, social media posts and e-newsletters.

In addition, we employed a range of more traditional media options, including:

  • Google Display advertising
  • Derbion Shopping Centre lift door advertising
  • Gold FM East Midlands radio advertising
  • Derbyshire Live (digital) and Derby Telegraph (print) advertising
  • Derby World digital advertising
  • Posters displayed in pharmacies

The campaign was a great success, with the digital element delivering over 7 million impressions and 10,000 visits to the campaign landing page. But the community aspect meant it wasn’t only about impressions and clicks, with over 50 blood pressure checks carried out during an event to celebrate International Women’s Day.

“Working with NHS Creative was a pleasure from start to finish. Their support went above and beyond what we’d initially asked for and really took the pressure off us as a team, they have a lot of expertise and knowledge. They were always very responsive and dedicated to the campaign, particularly given the tight timescales we gave!

Their knowledge of the NHS and how NHS campaigns work was valuable and they offered suggestions on how to improve or add to the campaign; which was very successful with great reach and positive feedback from our project team.

We look forward to working with them again in the future.”
