Obesity in the News animation

Lancaster University

Obesity is a pressing social issue and a persistently newsworthy topic for the media.

As part of the promotion for their book ‘Obesity in the News: Language and Representation in the Press’, author Paul Baker of Lancaster University asked us to produce an animation to highlight the power of linguistic choices to shame and stigmatise people with obesity.

The book – and the animation – demonstrate the potential for alternative representations which place greater focus on the role that social and political forces play in this topical health issue.
